Written in the last year of his life and inspired by his intense correspondence with Kamila Stösslová, the younger woman who became his muse, Janáček’s Intimate Letters is heard here in a semi-staged performance, the movements of the work interwoven with a narrated script that brings their extraordinary relationship vividly to life. Dvořák’s glowing Piano Quintet dances with the warmth and lyricism of his Bohemian roots.
