The festival concludes with brilliance and exuberance. Fanny Mendelssohn’s Fantasia is one of four piano and string duets, written for her younger brother. Written for and premiered by today’s performers, Huw Watkins’s extraordinary Piano Trio no.2 is a single movement work and a compelling journey of melodic beauty and rhythmic brilliance. Schumann’s radiant Piano Quintet crowns the weekend - a work that revolutionised the musical character of the piano quintet. A joyous finale that captures the festival’s spirit of collaboration and celebration, and sends audiences into the festive week uplifted and inspired.
